Mathematica by Example 3rd edition; Abell & Braselton

This volume is geared toward the beginning Mathematica user, and focuses on the most often used features of this powerful tool. The book covers popular applications of mathematics within different areas including calculus, linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, and partial differential equations.

I found this book to be easy to understand and simplifies all my calculations thus far. This presents the material in a logical framework with LOTS OF EXAMPLES. I remember standing in the university library for 15 min comparing the handful of books available on Mathematica and this book won out then and now still cover the fundamentals well. I still use them in my work today.

Mathematica: Useful Software for Engineering Mathematics

Mathematica is a computer program used widely in scientific engineering and mathematical fields. It is mainly known as a computer algebra system, but it has various other features for technical computing. It was originally conceived by Stephen Wolfram and developed by a team of mathematicians and programmers that he assembled and led. It is developed by Wolfram Research of Champaign, Illinois.

Why Mathematica? Because this one integrated software system delivers unprecedented workflow, coherence, reliability, and innovation. Rather than requiring different toolkits for different jobs, Mathematica has been built from its inception to deliver one vision: the ultimate technical computing environment.

Book Description
Students today enter engineering courses with a wide range of mathematical skills, due to the many different pre-university qualifications studied. Bill Cox's aim is for students to gain a thorough understanding of the maths they are studying, by first strengthening their background in the essentials of each topic. His approach allows a unique self-paced study style, in which students Review their strengths and weaknesses through self-administered diagnostic tests, then focus on Revision where they need it, to finally Reinforce the skills required. The book is structured around a highly successful ‘transition’ maths course at Aston University which has demonstrated a clear improvement in students' achievement in mathematics, and has been commended by QAA Subject Review and engineering accreditation reports.
